Mission Statement

Theatre of Youth Company, Inc. (TOY) is a non-profit professional theatre company dedicated to the enhancement of life in the community through the enrichment, education, and entertainment of young audiences.  TOY aims to engage and challenge young audiences with theatre that is artistically exciting, innovative in form and style and relevant in content.  In a society which values high-tech entertainment, TOY strives to instill and nurture in young people, from Pre-K through high school and college, an appreciation for the art of live theatre as a stimulating cultural experience, one which celebrates the worth and creativity of the individual.

About Theatre of Youth

TOY was founded in 1972 by Rosalind Cramer and Toni Smith Wilson, theatre instructors at Daemen College.  Initially TOY was a touring theatre company that performed in schools throughout Western New York.  Under the artistic direction of Meg Quinn, TOY is now the largest resident producing children’s theatre company in New York State, performing to over 50,000 young people and adults each year.  In 2008, TOY launched an innovative five-year initiative to produce plays addressing health issues among young people, including childhood obesity.   TOY’s home is the historic Allendale Theatre that was restored in partnership with the City of Buffalo.
