Mission Statement

The Brazen-Faced Varlets are a troupe of theatre artists who challenge, provoke and delight to promote artistic growth.

Our Goals Include:

  • Providing women with compelling roles
  • Re-imagining the theatrical canon in order to allow women to portray iconic roles
  • Allowing artists to grow and develop theatrical talents besides acting
  • Producing work that focuses on political issues that affect women
  • Raising awareness and funds for charities and organizations that provide needed services for women
  • Having pay-what-can nights for members of our community who wish to attend our performances but may not have the finances to afford a full price ticket

Our Origins:

Our inaugural production was Ramona and Juliet as part of the Second Annual Buffalo Infringement Festival in 2006.  The Varlets were nominated for the Outstanding Ensemble Artie Award and Kelly won an Artie Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress for her portrayal of Lady Capulet.  The Varlets have been nominated for the Artie Outstanding Ensemble two more times for The Comedy of Queerers and Electra: Screw You, Mom!.
