We Have Issues

We Have Issues is a short play festival which is a part of the International Women's Voices Theater Festival. The staged-reading will take on place on January 27, 2018 at 1 pm at the Theodore Roosevelt Inaugural Site.  


In partnership with National New Play Network and the New Play Exchange, the Festival invites theaters and theater-makers around the globe to present public or private reading of unproduced works by women playwrights in celebration of the first anniversary of the worldwide Women's Marches. 

The Varlets' entry into the Festival, We Have Issues, will feature six new works by female playwrights including Buffalo's own Donna Hoke and Bella Poynton.  The festival is curated and directed by the Brazen-Faced Varlets Artistic Director, Lara D. Haberberger and features the acting talents of Jennifer Arroyo, Sara Burmith, Shelby Converse, Heather Fangsrud, Anna Kempholtz, Caroline Parzy-Sanders, and Kristina Santiago.

The plays cover themes like elder care, birth control, marriage, lesbianism, and institutionalized misogyny.  The plays and their playwrights are:

Cheat by Bella Poynton
I Cry While Playing Sports by Andrea Sutherland
Bath Time by Kris Thompson

The Women's Voices Theater Festival was first held in Washington, DC in 2015.  Professional area theaters produced new works by female playwrights with the mission of " of highlighting both the scope of plays being written by women, and the range of professional theater being produced in and around the nation's capital."

Admission will be pay-what-you-can.
