Through the many characters of all ages the author Pamela Gien, tells the story of what it was like growing up in South Africa during the 1960s.  She gives a clear picture of what life was like during the height of Apartheid.  She shows how a land of great beauty could sometimes produce a life of great horror and eventually lead to the emigration to a safer land.   Our actress, Olivia Olsen, identifies with this play as she too grew up in South Africa.  Ms. Olsen mirrors the life of Lizzie Grey from the play in so many ways to make her empathetic performance astoundingly compelling across Canada and the UK.  Like Pamela Gien (Lizzie Grey) Ms. Olsen left her homeland in the middle of the night with her family.  There were no goodbyes or embraces or words shared between her black loved ones all of whom she never saw again. 

The Alt is located at 255 Great Arrow Avenue, which connects Delaware Avenue and Elmwood Avenue.  The setting is a post-industrial atmosphere where the huge complex was once the heart of the birthplace of America's famous Pierce Arrow.  We are conveniently located between two bus lines and there is has ample free parking.  Our theatre is handicap accessible with a manned elevator during all productions.  We are just ¾ of a mile north of The Albright Knox Art Gallery and The Burchfield-Penny Art Center, a few blocks from The Buffalo and Erie County Historical Society and walking distance to Delaware Park
