The Roar of the Greasepaint, The Smell of the Crowd

Book, Music, and Lyrics by Leslie Bricusse and Anthony Newleyroar.jpg
Produced by Lancaster Opera House

This brilliant show, equal parts comedy and drama, looks at the class struggles of Britain in the 60s. Upper class Sir is always changing the rules, preventing downtrodden Cocky from improving his station. Can Cocky win the game of life? The show was written in 1965 by Leslie Bricusse and Anthony Newley, the famous British writing team best known for the songs from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, and the score features at least four hits: "A Wonderful Day Like Today," "Feelin’ Good," "Who Can I Turn To?" and "Nothing Can Stop Me Now!" Artistic/Executive Director David Bondrow will appear as Cocky, and Tim Hartman, who played Senex in last season’s A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, will play Sir.
