FREE NIGHT OF THEATER
CLOSE TO 400 RESERVATIONS MADE IN FIRST HOUR
Overwhelming demand brings site down for an hour.
Some performance dates have been added.
Buffalo, NY – Theatre Alliance of Buffalo (TAB) members joined Free Night of Theater, a national Theatre Communications Group initiative for the second time this year. In the spirit of participating in a national event with over 600 theatres across the country, TAB theatres are swinging their doors open to new audience while building awareness of a vibrant theatre community in Buffalo, NY.
The Free Night of Theater reservation site “live” launch was yesterday, Oct.1 at 9am in Buffalo. Despite organizers attempt to stagger the launching of “live” times across the country, the site was momentarily down at noon, lunchtime, due to
overwhelming request for free theatre. It’s back up with more performances added.
The successful audience development program was designed to attract new patrons to live theatre and give existing patrons access to venues they might not be familiar with. This fall, theatre-goers from coast to coast are given the opportunity to attend performances in more than 120 cities.
New audience in Buffalo were offered over 1000 seats from the 8 participating TAB members and presented with a selection of a mystery thriller, a world premiere, a family favorite, a dramatic work, or a classic musical.
Free Night participating theatres include Irish Classical Theatre, Jewish Repertory Theatre, The Kavinoky Theatre, New Phoenix Theatre on the Park, MusicalFare Theatre, Road Less Traveled Productions, Theater of Youth and Ujima Theatre Company.
Free Night reservations were made online and within hours of public announcement “sold out” notices appeared next to local theatre’s listing.
