Entertaining, humorous and heartfelt
In a seedy Dublin house-of-ill-repute, irrepressible characters sing, shout and carouse; their ?bawdville? antics a stark contrast to the violence and brutality taking place just outside the door.  Inside, a kidnapped enemy soldier is threatened with death if British authorities carry out the planned execution of 18 year old member of the IRA.  In this riotous play with music, the gaiety and exuberance of the brothel patrons burst through the growing hostilities; and, as the deadly conflict rages, a tender, beautiful love story unfolds between the young captive and an innocent convent girl.

Sit up straight! Eyes forward! Hands in Hallelujah pose! The Nuns are coming! NUNSENSE A-MEN! Dan
Goggin’s funny, nunny musical starring the Little Sisters of Hoboken.

NUNSENSE A-MEN! is the original “Nunsense” show with all of the characters being portrayed by ... men!
Think of it as “Mrs. Doubtfire enters the Convent.” Done totally seriously, this show is, to quote a critic, “no
drag.” A whole new layer of comedy surfaces with lines like “The guys in the old neighborhood still can’t believe
I became a nun!” To quote the New York Times: “A change of habit, boy oh, boy!” You'll be rolling in the aisles
when you treat yourself to NUNSENSE A-MEN! - It would be a sin to miss it!

By Bill C. Davis

"AVOW is all about vows and avowing: it's about finding balance in a maze of promises and confessions and assertions, made to oneself and to one's God. Bill C. Davis pushes us squarely in the center of a lively and provocative debate about the most fundamental and essential questions that human beings face. Davis wisely steps backs from his characters, seldom judging them.; instead giving them all vitality and dimension so that we care about and come to understand each one. AVOW contains plenty of lively theological debate, but it's first and foremost a rich and complex human drama. And lest you think that AVOW is deadly serious, let me add that there is also a good deal of genuine humor in this play." NYTheater.com: Martin Denton

Considered Shepard’s Masterwork and recently revived at New York's Circle in the Square, where Philip Seymour Hoffman and John C. Reilly alternated playing the roles of the brothers, this American classic explores alternatives that might spring from the demented terrain of the California landscape. Sons of a desert dwelling alcoholic and a suburban wanderer clash over a film script. Austin, the achiever, is working on a script he has sold to producer Sal Kimmer when Lee, a demented petty thief, drops in. He pitches his own idea for a movie to Kimmer, who then wants Austin to junk his bleak, modern love story and write Lee's trashy Western tale.

"I dare you, lightning, strike! I am not afraid."  Long before the Declaration of Independence, Ben Franklin was a scientist who was relentless in his pursuit of knowledge and was not afraid to take risks.  However, in the early-1700’s, new ideas were considered dangerous and met with extreme skepticism.  Conflict, comedy and dazzling special effects highlight this tale of an American hero's struggle to tame nature’s power—electricity. Blending historical fiction with contemporary resonance, this thrilling play for families culminates on a stormy night with the crack of thunder, a blinding light and an experiment that changed the world!

Directed by Saul Elkin

The Jewish Wife by Bertolt Brecht.  Frankfurt, 1935. Judith Keith, the Jewish wife of a consultant doctor, is packing. As she phones friends and relatives to tell them of her imminent departure it becomes apparent that she is fleeing Germany in the face of Nazi prejudice; to save her husband, Fritz, embarrassment and probable loss of position. She rehearses a frank confrontation with Fritz but when he returns, they lapse into the clichés that both know are lies: "You could do with a change of air ... It's only a couple of weeks."

The Duck Variations  by David Mamet.  The play depicts a discussion taking place between two elderly men sitting on a park bench watching ducks. The dialogue begins with the mating habits of ducks and runs to examine law, friendship and death. The principal irony is that the men really know nothing about ducks. If they did, it would not improve their beautiful fugue on the theme of the possibility of happiness. Rather they use what experience has taught them and scattered, possibly incorrect ideas and facts to make guesses. They each assure the other that their guesses are established fact. By argument and occasional agreement a composite view of ducks and by extension, the world, begins to emerge.

By David Lindsay-Abaire
Nothing will prepare you for the dirty little secret Cass discovers in her husband's sweater drawer. It is so shocking that our heroine has no choice but to flee to the honeymoon capital of the world in a frantic search for the life she thinks she missed out on. It's a wild ride over Niagara Falls in a barrel of laughs as Cass embarks on a journey of self-discovery that has her crossing paths with a blithely suicidal alcoholic, a lonely tour-boat captain, a pair of bickering private detectives and a strange caper involving a gargantuan jar of peanut butter, all of which pushes her perilously close to the water's edge.
“Wonder of the World is exceedingly whimsical and playfully wicked. Winning and genial. A top-drawer production." —The Washington Post

Directed by Mr. Laverne Clay
In the backwater town of Boligee, Alabama, the summer heat is rising higher, driving the townsfolk to distraction and conjuring the spirits of the past to walk the earth. Wrapped in the combustible music of a Deep South juke joint and the sweat-soaked gospel of a revivalist church tent, intergenerational stories of loss and redemption collide. Gardley blends ancient myth with magical realism, Biblical allegory with the local TV news to create a fiery theatrical furnace in which some will be saved, some will be purged and the truth cannot escape.

Written by Tina Howe, first produced Off-Broadway in 1976 and a finalist for the 1982 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. The play concerns the relationship between
an artist daughter and her aging parents. Gardner and Fanny Church are preparing to move out of their Beacon Hill house to their summer cottage on Cape Cod. They have asked their daughter, Mags, to come home and help them move. She agrees, for she hopes to finally paint their portrait. She is now on the verge of artistic celebrity herself
and hopes, by painting her parents, to come to terms with them and they with her.

"Beautifully written ...PAINTING CHURCHES is theatrical family portrait that has the shimmer and depth of Renoir portraits." N.Y.Times. "A radiant, loving and zestfully humorous play . . . distinctly Chekhovian. Howe captures the same edgysurface of false hilarity, the same unutterable sadness beneath it, and the indomitable valor beneath both."

The Pulitzer Prize for Drama, a Tony Award nomination for Best Play for the original Broadway production and a Tony Award for Best Revival of a Play in 1996 - this celebrated American Classic, written by one of our most powerful and eloquent writers, dares to encounter the void created by the loss of love in a marriage adrift from its moorings.  On the surface, the language is as elegant and clever as Oscar Wilde and Noel Coward, but lurking beneath the graceful, humorous and combative prose is an unfathomable sense of heartbreak and uncertainty.  Don?t miss the opportunity to see this profoundly human and touching drama, starring Josephine Hogan.

Comedy by Noel Coward

Our friend Mr. Coward is back this season, and this time he’s got ghosts up his sleeve.  Indeed, the situation at the heart of this mannered comedy is a fine one — an ill-conceived cocktail party séance brings one man’s ex back from the dead. She’s funny, needy and manipulative, and not necessarily in that order.  This might be less of a problem if our man’s flesh-and-blood wife weren’t already a bit on the jealous side (can you say “perpetual cat fight”?). With all the sophisticated humor you expect of Coward, Blithe Spirit is prime-time stuff – only better.

Two years prior, it was their mother’s death, followed the next year by their father. Now the war has claimed their only brother. THREE SISTAHS is an elegant, intimate musical that embraces the lives of these women as they reunite, reveal and reconcile their past and present, and share the promise of the future set to the backdrop of gospel, rhythm & blues, funk and folk.

By Joseph Robinette.  Adapted from the Newbery Award-winning classic by E.B. White

Joseph Robinette’s play captures the playful and endearing spirit of this family favorite.  All of the classic characters are here:  Wilbur, the irresistible young pig who desperately wants to avoid the butcher; Fern, the sweet and energetic girl who understands what animals say to each other; Templeton, the gluttonous wise-cracking rat who can occasionally be talked into a good deed; the Zuckerman family; and most of all, the extraordinary spider, Charlotte, who proves to be a good friend and writer.  This colorful storybook adaptation for our youngest audience will have the whole family saying “Terrific!” that was “Some Pig!”
